O2, camshaft and crankshaft sensor replacement in Tooele

A failing sensor can turn on the check engine light, drop the car into limp mode or make it stall. We test the sensor and its wiring before replacing it, then swap it in your driveway.

A bad sensor can cause

  • A check engine light with a sensor code
  • Limp mode, where the car won’t shift up or go over low speeds
  • Stalling or cutting out while driving
  • Hard starting or cranking with no start
  • Worse gas mileage

The sensors we replace most

  • Oxygen (O2) sensors, which measure exhaust and affect fuel mixture and mileage
  • Camshaft position sensors, which can trigger limp mode or rough running
  • Crankshaft position sensors, which can cause stalling or no-start
  • Mass airflow and other engine sensors

Test the sensor, then test the wiring

A sensor code means the computer saw a bad signal. That can be the sensor, but it can also be a chafed wire or a corroded connector. Replacing a good sensor does not fix a broken wire, so we check both.

Some sensors are easy to reach. Others sit behind belts, covers or the timing cover. We will tell you which yours is before we quote it.

Done in your driveway?

Most O2, camshaft and many crankshaft sensors are driveway jobs.

When it needs a shop

A crankshaft sensor buried behind the timing cover can be a much bigger job. We will tell you if that is yours.

Sensors (O2, camshaft, more): questions

Can a bad camshaft sensor put my car in limp mode?

Yes. On many vehicles a bad camshaft position sensor signal is one of the common causes of limp mode. We confirm it with testing before replacing it.

Do O2 sensors affect gas mileage?

They can. A slow or failed upstream O2 sensor can make the engine run rich and burn more fuel.
