Signs something is worn
- A clunk or knock over bumps or potholes
- A rattle from one corner on rough roads
- Loose or wandering steering
- Uneven tire wear on the inside or outside edge
- The car pulls to one side
- A hum or growl that gets louder with speed (often a wheel bearing)
- Clicking when you turn sharply (often a CV axle)
- A bouncy ride or the nose dipping hard when you brake (worn struts or shocks)
What we repair
- Sway bar end links, a common source of clunks
- Inner and outer tie rod ends, which affect steering feel and tire wear
- Wheel bearings and hubs
- CV axles
- Struts and shocks
- Ball joints and control arms
Some suspension jobs are big
Links, tie rods and many CV axles and bearings are straightforward in a driveway. Some struts, ball joints and control arms are a lot more work and are better done on a lift in a shop. It depends on the vehicle and how rusted things are. We will look at yours and tell you honestly which kind of job it is before you book.
Alignment after steering work
Replacing a tie rod changes the alignment. You will need an alignment at a tire or alignment shop afterward, or your tires will wear fast. We will tell you when that is needed.
Done in your driveway?
Sway bar links, tie rod ends and many wheel bearings and CV axles are driveway jobs.
When it needs a shop
Some struts, ball joints and control arms need a lift and a shop. Alignments always need a shop. We will tell you which yours is.
